As a cake decorator I spend almost all my money on cake tools. Seriously. They cost a fortune, and you end up buying dozens of things without even knowing how to use most of them. So here’s my top 10 list of cake tools I’m currently besotted by.
These super cheap, super easy to use cake levellers. I’ve used these on smaller cakes in the last few videos, and seriously, they are awesome!
The best knife of the lot! I’ve had mine for about 4-5 years, and it’s still the sharpest one I own. Fat Daddio brand, check out out for sure.
If you love using fresh flowers, and you aren’t using flower spikes, grab some now! No one likes cakes with flower stabbed into them. These are the perfect way to decorate a cake with fresh blooms.
The most wonderful springform pan to have ever existed! Seriously! See me make a rainbow cheesecake with it, and you’ll want one too!.
The best, and cheapest turntable. From Ikea, $15, bargain, get one!
If you work with fondant, you have to try this rolling pin! I use it every time, it lasts for years, and I have like 4 of them, just in case.
For my buttercream peeps, how annoying is it to have to start a new bag for the same color icing, just because you need to change the tip? These couplers will save you hours of your life, and pounds of buttercream. Get them, use them, love them.
Well hello bestie! 104 piping tips are the single greatest cake tool on the face of the earth. I use them for pretty much every ruffle, flower, cupcake, you name it, I’ll use it. I have 8, because I really hate having to wash them out in between colors, and they are my fave!
Black Satin Ice fondant. Enough said really. If you love the chalkboard cake trend, or a just a goth at heart like me, black fondant is a nightmare to make, but so easy to work with if you get it pre-tinted. I buy black, red and yellow as well as chocolate and ivory.
Last but certainly not least, Sugarflair grape paste. The ultimate food dye, in a gorgeous purple, THAT DOESN’T FADE! That’s right, you heard me. Pricey, but you use hardly any of it.
So there you have my go to cake tool list. Leave a comment below with your fave cake tool!
