A flower cake that’s easy to make !
I make a lot of flower cakes. A lot! But seriously, they are always a hit. This one was for a friend of mine who, well, just deserved cake! I’ve been really lucky to have made some amazing friends. Mostly through cake! And sometimes we get so busy, and so caught up in our own lives, and dramas, that we don’t just drop by anymore. I’ve been guilty of that for pretty much the last 8 years, so when I do get a chance to whip up something pretty, and bring it to a friend, I make sure I do.
Having friends in my 30’s is getting easier. I have a little more time on my hands than when the girls were little, or maybe it’s just that I’m not so utterly exhausted from chasing after them (and working 7 days a week on a cake business). But you also have to make time. It’s just so easy to run down to the shops, grab a coffee as you go, and just keep your head down, and get in to and out of every store like you’re on a top secret, time sensitive mission. But at least once or twice a month I try to call someone, or message someone as I’m leaving to see if we can squeeze in a coffee date. And it’s worth it.
Honestly, it’s like therapy for me. Especially when it’s a caker, or someone in weddings, or another artist. We can talk each other’s ears off, hug, and go on with the rest of our day feeling a little lighter mentally, a little more motivated, and a little more focused. I don’t know how many times I’ve had a cuppa with a friend, and then days later, I’m still thinking about something they said, or some advice they gave. And it changes me. It sometimes changes the entire direction I’m going in!
So this cake was just one way to show someone that they are important, special, and I’m really glad to have them in my life.
